Since 1959 the Kaua'i Filipino Community Council has hosted an annual scholarship pageant to promote cultural growth and educational advancement.

Where it began

As filipino immigrants poured into Kaua'i many young filipinos found this new place as their home. Guided by their cultural values built around family, strong work ethic and vision, a community developed a need for support around the arts and culture. Through the yearning of higher education and natural beauty of young filipino women, the Miss Kaua'i Filipino Pageant was awakened to create an avenue for self-expression of the arts and an opportunity to pursue a higher education.

After 56 years of success, Miss Kaua'i Filipina Scholarship Pageant has awarded over $100,000 of scholarship funds to young aspiring filipina women. Many of our contestants have gone on to become instrumental leaders internationally. Through their experience with the pageant many have expressed a deep sense of appreciation and knowledge of their filipino heritage and a feeling of empowerment through education.

What do contestants get out of it?

top 3 benefits of being a contestant of miss kauai filipina

One of the greatest hurdles to success in life is the ability to expand your knowledge through higher education. Alongside that hurdle is the ability to become aware of who you are and where your origins are. Many of our contestants attest that when all is said and done with our pageant, the process of being in the pageant awakens their cultural heritage and empowers them to be successful in life.

Expand your horizon

One of the greatest benefits of being a contestant of Miss Kauai Filipina Scholarship Pageant is the opportunity to receive financial and moral support for higher education. It is our belief that to elevation of our consciousness through education can be the momentum needed to find success in life. That is why we award thousands of dollars to our eligible contestants that perform and place in our pageant. Alongside the journey our contestants will be guided by many influential mentors of the filipino community and able to network with doctors, educators, presidents, and leaders in our community. Like they say, "Surround yourself by greatness and you too will be great."

Deepen your inner truths

We find that at the end of the pageant our contestants, whether queen or runner up, find a deep sense of gratitude for realizing their upbringing and the legacy in which they hold. In times of trials and tribulations, knowing the depth of who you are and where you come from can really make a difference. History tells us that the struggles of the Filipino culture have proven that the Filipino values and traditions are steeped in resiliency, trust, hard work, and vision. We believe that when a contestant enters the Miss Kauai Filipina Scholarship Pageant, they are better able to communicate who they are and attain the dreams and goals they set forth through this awareness.

This is the legacy in which the Miss kauai filipina Scholarship Pageant has perpetuated for over 50 years!
